New county courthouse for Magistrate, County and District Courts, Clerk, Administration, Judge’s Chambers, District Attorney and Probation with public spaces and elevators, etc. This 4-story plus partial basement facility is on a driven pile foundation with a composite steel frame structure with metal deck and concrete slab enclosed by metal stud exterior walls with brick veneer and storefront glazing. Interior partitions are of metal stud and masonry with high-level finishes creatively accomplished to stay in budget. Roof is single ply membrane and also included are a fire suppression system and a VAV mechanical system. The basement is connected to the adjacent Detention Center via a secure underground tunnel and leads to a security/control room surrounded by holding cells served by secure elevators that transport inmates up to holding cells between each pair of courtrooms. This greatly reduces expense and danger of inmate transport. This project completes the 1990 master plan for the Sheriff’s Office, Jail and Justice Center.
